What is Cloud Computing ?

Basically “the cloud” refers to the way software is delivered, from e-mail to ERP to payroll, to the user through the medium of the internet. The public cloud refers to the framework comprised of multi-tenant servers, on the other hand private cloud services are dedicated specifically to one organization.

What is Hosting ?

In addition to hardware and operating systems, cloud provider’s house and manage the installation, upgrades and user configuration for your 3rd party software.

What is Virtualization?

This is the creation of a software layer between existing computer hardware and the hosting operating systems of the cloud. This layer acts as a buffer allowing multiple “virtual machines” each hosting their own operating system and applications to run side by side on the same physical hardware.

How does a Cloud solution improve a business’s scalability?

The Cloud allows you to easily adjust up or down the number of users and applications to meet the changing needs of your business as increased or decreased demand changes. Specifically useful for application where usage comes in peaks and troughs. Applications can also be trialled without the need for a large capital expenditure.

How does the Cloud improve my Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery?

Should your business not be in a position to continue at your current location, your employees can continue to work effectively. You can easily access your ICT infrastructure anywhere, anytime and on any device. We leverage Enterprise technologies to enable your business to recover from a critical outage or premises outage.

What encryption or other security features would be in place to ensure confidentiality of the data hosted on the MyCloud servers?

Your entire cloud environment is private and appropriate segregation of your servers is enabled and hardened. We create private networks that cannot be accessed from other areas of the infrastructure. We have the best practices enabled on our peripheral security appliances and we encrypt any data moving between our Data centre and remote locations/sessions.

What is the Data Storage capacity available?

We have unlimited data growth capabilities and we can flex your cloud to suit your ‘current’ requirements. This is one of the main advantages to cloud as you buy for now eliminating the need to predict future resource requirements.

What would happen in the event of a power outage or sever malfunction in the MyCloud data centre?

We have full redundancy built into our infrastructure, this allows for redundant telecom services, hardware failure beyond 40%, highly available trunk switching with multi-path failover between servers, storage and telecoms. All power to the facility is delivered through multi sub-stations, with UPS battery power to manage the switchover to diesel generators. There is enough supplies on site to run this for four days without resumption of power, and these supplies can be extended indefinitely.

Are there any issues with installing of new software applications or updates once your network is hosted in the cloud?

Your cloud servers are effectively the same as your on premise servers in the sense that’s software installations can be carried out at any stage – we would however advise our clients to liaise with us before installing new applications etc. to ensure compatibility.
